Veterinarian caring for a rescue animal

Donate to Desex

Every un-desexed animal is one litter away from crisis. For whānau in South and East Auckland already stretched by the cost of living, a vet bill can be the difference between keeping their pet and surrendering it.

Your donation goes directly towards desexing, microchipping, and veterinary care for animals belonging to whānau who simply can't afford it — keeping pets in loving homes and preventing the next generation of unwanted litters.

Why Desexing Matters

  • One un-desexed female dog and her descendants can produce hundreds of puppies within a few years.
  • Desexing reduces roaming, aggression, and territorial behaviour — making animals safer neighbours and safer pets.
  • It's often the single biggest cost barrier standing between a struggling whānau and keeping their pet.
  • Kāinga Ora and private rental tenancy rules increasingly require pets to be desexed — without support, this pushes vulnerable whānau towards surrendering animals or losing housing.

South & East Auckland

Where We Work

We focus our desexing support on the communities Auckland Council's own data identifies as having the highest rates of roaming dogs, menacing dog classifications, and animal welfare callouts — areas where cost of living pressure is greatest and vet access is hardest.

  • Ōtara

One of Auckland Council's highest-priority patrol areas for roaming and menacing dogs

  • Manurewa

Consistently high rates of roaming-dog reports and animal management callouts

  • Papakura

Identified by council as a focus suburb for proactive animal management patrols

  • Māngere

Home to SPCA Auckland's largest centre — under sustained capacity pressure

  • Māngere Bridge

AAR's base of operations — at the heart of the communities we serve

  • Papatoetoe

High-density rental housing with significant Kāinga Ora tenancy and pet-ownership pressures

We also assist whānau referred from neighbouring suburbs across South and East Auckland. If you're unsure whether we can help, get in touch — we'll do our best.
